High-Performance SLA Resin for Tough, Detailed, and Heat-Resistant Parts

Somos Taurus is an SLA resin designed for applications that require high impact strength, heat resistance, and excellent surface quality. With the ability to produce large parts, undergo heat treatment, and deliver precise details, this material is well-suited for functional prototypes and low-volume production parts across various industries.

Superior Material Properties Compared to Traditional Resins

One of the key advantages of Somos Taurus over traditional SLA resins is its improved impact resistance and toughness. Historically, SLA parts have been brittle, making them less suitable for demanding applications. Somos Taurus enhances toughness while maintaining the fine detail and smooth surface finish that SLA is known for. This makes it an excellent option for functional prototypes, load-bearing components, and preproduction test parts that need to withstand real-world conditions.

Large Part Capabilities: Expanding Design Possibilities

With the ability to print single, contiguous parts up to 31.5” x 31.5” x 23.6”, Somos Taurus enables the production of large-scale components without the need for assembly. This is particularly beneficial for industries such as aerospace, automotive, and industrial manufacturing, where large, lightweight, and durable parts are essential.

Beyond the maximum print size, Somos Taurus can also be bonded using industrial-grade epoxies, allowing for the creation of even larger components. By combining multiple prints, manufacturers can produce parts far exceeding the traditional build volume of SLA machines, expanding the range of applications where SLA is a viable production method.

Heat Treatment: Fine-Tuning Material Performance

A unique advantage of Somos Taurus is the ability to alter material properties through heat treatment. While the maximum size for heat-treatable parts is 15.7” x 15.7” x 13” and the minimum wall thickness is 0.060”, this process enhances mechanical properties, making parts even more durable and resistant to harsh heat conditions. With high heat deflection temperatures, this feature is especially useful for applications where parts may experience elevated temperatures or require additional structural reinforcement. By optimizing the post-processing method, engineers can tailor parts to meet specific performance requirements.

Appearance and Surface Quality: Precision Right Out of the Printer

SLA has long been favored for its ability to produce parts with extremely fine details and smooth surface finishes, and Somos Taurus continues this tradition. Right out of the printer, parts exhibit a refined finish that requires minimal post-processing, reducing labor costs and turnaround time.

Additionally, Somos Taurus allows for printed textures to be incorporated directly into the part design. This opens up new possibilities for aesthetic and functional enhancements, such as grip surfaces, branding elements, or decorative textures, all without the need for additional finishing steps.
